All women who might become pregnant are recommended to take a daily tablet containing 400mcg of folic acid each day.

Birth defects of the brain and spinal cord (Neural Tube Defects) develop in the first 28 days of pregnancy - before many women even know that they are pregnant!

Women need to start taking extra folic acid before conception and continue taking it for the first 3 months of pregnancy. Take it along with your prenatal vitamins and DHA.
It is 20 years since scentists first proved that folic acid can help prevent Neural Tube Defects.
Some women are at a higher risk of having a baby with a Neural Tube Defect and they are recommended to take a higher dose of 5mg of folic acid.
Up to 72% of Neural Tube Defects could be prevented if all women took folic acid as recommended.
Each year in the UK 900 pregnancies are affected by Neural Tube Defects.
It takes 1 tablet of folic acid a day to help prevent Neural Tube Defects such as spina bifida.
